Take-off Locations
Spildooren Ballooning has several unique take-off locations that we use depending on wind direction and speed. This allows our experienced team to always guarantee a safe and relaxing balloon flight.
If the weather gods are favorable with moderate to weak winds, taking off from the largest market square in the country in the city center of Sint-Niklaas is one of the flight possibilities.
The other possible departure locations for the balloon flight have a more rural and rustic character. At these take-off locations, we take to the skies along with many other hot air balloons. Stunning panoramic views guaranteed!

How Does a Balloon Flight Proceed?
The entire adventure begins even before you take your place in the basket. The balloon crew sets up the hot air balloon before departure. You can witness the entire inflation process from A to Z. While preparations are underway, you will receive a personal briefing from the pilot. All necessary information and safety instructions will be explained in detail. During the briefing, the pilot will also explain why ballooning is the safest air sport in the world. This way, even the most stressed passenger can fully enjoy the balloon flight, which lasts about an hour.
We conclude with an extensive aperitif at the landing site, accompanied by snacks and drinks. For our youngest guests, we also provide non-alcoholic beverages. We end this phenomenal experience in a cozy manner with a traditional toast. Upon request, we also offer a traditional champagne baptism.

The balloon flight is conducted in a compartmentalized basket that provides ample space for each passenger.
How Old Do You Have to Be for a Balloon Flight?
There is no minimum or maximum age to fly in a hot air balloon. However, children under 12 years old must be accompanied by an adult. If children cannot see over the edge of the basket, it is advisable to bring a step stool or small ladder.
The youngest passenger at Spildooren Ballooning was 3 years old, while our oldest was 100 years old.
What Should You Wear for a Balloon Flight?
The clothing needed during flight is almost identical to what you would wear on land.
Highly recommended!
- Sturdy shoes
- Long pants
A thick coat is not necessary at 20 degrees Celsius. However, after the flight, it can cool down significantly at sunset. Therefore, we always recommend bringing a jacket that will come in handy during the aperitif at the landing site.
In a hot air balloon, it is not much colder than on land. The cooling effect at higher altitudes is compensated by heat radiation from the burners.
Afraid of Heights?
If some group members suffer from acrophobia (fear of heights), let that not be an issue! During a hot air balloon ride, there is no physical contact with the ground, which automatically reduces nervousness.
