How does a balloon flight proceed?

The whole adventure starts even before you take your place in the basket. The balloon crew sets up the hot air balloon before departure. You can witness the entire inflation process from A to Z. While preparations are underway, you will receive a personal briefing from the pilot. All necessary information and safety instructions are explained in detail. During the briefing, the pilot will also explain why hot air ballooning is the safest air sport in the world. This way, even the most stressed passenger can fully enjoy the approximately one-hour-long balloon ride.

We conclude with an extensive aperitif at the landing site, accompanied by snacks and drinks. For our youngest guests, we also provide non-alcoholic beverages. We end this phenomenal experience in a cozy way with a traditional toast. Upon request, we also provide a traditional champagne baptism.

How old do you have to be for a balloon flight?

There is no minimum or maximum age to fly in a hot air balloon. However, children under 12 years must be accompanied by an adult. If children cannot see over the edge of the basket, it is advisable to bring a step stool or crate.

The youngest passenger at Spildooren Ballooning was 3 years old, while our oldest was 100 years old.

What should you wear for a balloon flight?

The clothing needed during the flight is almost identical to what you would wear on the ground.

A thick jacket is not necessary at 20 degrees Celsius. However, after the flight, it can cool down significantly at sunset. Therefore, we always recommend bringing a jacket that will come in handy during the aperitif at the landing site.

The temperature inside a hot air balloon is not much colder than on the ground. The cooling effect at higher altitudes is compensated by heat radiation from the burners.

A fear of heights?

If some group members suffer from acrophobia (fear of heights), let that not be an issue! During a hot air balloon ride, there is no physical contact with the ground, which automatically reduces nervousness.
